Seriously I did not realise how much FEELINGS I had about this until I started writing it!

I’ve worn glasses since I was about 14 and got contact lenses for my 17th birthday (and wore them pretty much constantly for the next 5 years or so. Definitely went over the 10 hour limit!). But this brought back a memory from just before I got contact lenses, I was at college and had taken my glasses off to wipe them as I think it had been raining. One of the guys in the class had looked at me and said, ‘wow, you’re really pretty without your glasses’. As if he’d barely registered my existence up til that point. Which pretty much confirmed my worst fears that no one would ever fancy me in glasses!!!!

In my 50’s now and like you I wear my glasses majority of time and contacts for nights out. ☺️

Oh my god that comment hit me right in the heart! I just remembered a boy basically saying “lose the glasses and you two would be hot” to me and my best friend when we were out on the night we finished our Inter Cert exams aged 15 and it HAUNTED me for a long time. Stupid boys!

Aw thank you! 💖 I regret to say that most boys in Dublin did not think so at the time…

Oh God the narrow rectangles! I had so many pairs of those. My husband and I can date our old photos from the length of his beard and the surface area of my lenses.

(Also, Our Song was fantastic and my copy is now doing the rounds among my friends, I fear I may never see it again as everyone else has loved it too...)

Thanks so much! Honoured that Our Song is being passed around like that.

And god those rectangles l were awful, weren’t they? I fear they suited nobody (they definitely didn’t suit me)! And now I come to think of it, can’t have been ideal for actually SEEING through given the tiny surface area…
